'Ghost'

Bruce was my dear friend and when ever I visited Lancashire he was my self appointed chauffeur.
He would drive me to visit my friends and family, always cheerful, happy and chatty ...that is unless I got confused and made a mistake with my directions!
Then he would pull over and park wherever we were... double yellow lines ...double parked or whatever. Shut off the engine and say" OK Pal,...when you have it all sorted and you know which way we should be heading ...just tell me and we'll be on our way" !!
The memory that I will forever keep closest to my heart is when, a couple of months after Geoff passed away, Bruce took me to catch the train to London from Preston Station (he parked in a No Parking area by the Taxi Rank ...slapped his Blue Badge on the dash and declared that it would be just fine there!)
Bruce and Geoff had been at school together and they were also just about the same height and build.
Just before the train was due, Bruce wrapped his arms around me pulled me in and said "Put you head on my shoulder ... snuggle in and think 'Ghost' ..... this is just about as close to Geoff that you will ever feel." He held me there strongly yet gently, it was the greatest gift that he could have ever given to me.
As the train came into the station, he steadied me on my feet and looked at me ...
I was crying -he had just little tears in his eyes and he turned away and left me.
This strong gruff man had a sentimental soul ..... now whenever I think 'Ghost'
I will feel them both again, holding me.
